Whites....sorry

I see from my twitter feed that Whites only made it through one series before being canned. Now it looks like there is a movement to get it renewed again. After accidentally watching last night's episode on the ABC I'm not sure why, because it just wasn't really that funny. This is a shame because with cooking shows and celebrity chefs taking over our television schedules there sure is room for a biting comedy about them. Mix Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver and that guy with the cravat together and there's a character I could watch with interest. Anyway, it makes me sad that Whites was so....ordinary...because I love Alan Davies. He was perfect in Jonathon Creek and lovely on QI. And Katherine Parkinson from the IT Crowd is fantastic as well but here she just seemed to be playing a poor imitation of Jen. The crafty little apprentice storyline was all just a little obvious and tired. The best thing was Maggie Steed as snobby diner from hell. Here's an actress who knows how to make the best of a ornery job.
I just don't know that I will tune in again.
Sorry....

I'd reads it was a bit iffy. I wanted it to be really good, I haven't watched it yet, but I will for Maggie Steed, I think she's fabulous!!

I thought it was a good premise, and it seems to have all the right ingredients for a successful English comedy but doesn't quite gel in the first episode. Maggie Steed can steal a whole show with the smallest of parts; she's brilliant and I liked Alan Davies dry character. When Caroline appeared, I kept waiting for the rest of the IT Crowd to appear behind her so I felt like you about her, and the other characters just seemed flat.
I'll keep watching as I'm hoping the characters might grow and it is a very dry humour, but it was a bit disappointing which is a shame.

I stumbled upon Whites on YouTube late last year and although certain parts were entertaining, overall it was pretty dull. Only later episodes were available on YouTube at the time, but I can guess how boring the first would've been. Several of the characters grated on me but I did enjoy the Kiki character!
