uses of literacy

In Brisbane for four days over the long weekend I was delighted to find a secondhand bookshop in south brisbane where I picked up a copy of Richard Hoggart's Uses of Literacy. I have been keen to read this ever since John Hartley published his Uses of Television inspired by Hoggart. Quaint cover....

i have a cute cover on mine too... it has a picture of a little boy trying to study in the lounge room with his mum ironing and his dad reading the paper... it was a big part of my phd... enjoy!

yes - i feel like i should have read this long ago - just to clarify for myself Hartley's perspective - always useful to return to the primary text i think...
